Cool Websites

cool websites

On this page I’m going to give you some links to the best online resources for metal modeling. I don’t think it will be hundreds of links to every page anyone’s ever put up. Just some helpful ones that will introduce you to the online community of modelers.

Having said that, if you come across a particularly helpful site, feel free to contact me and suggest it. I can’t promise I’ll link to it … but maybe.

The Online Metal Modeling Community

  • One of the most active pages is the Metal Earth Subreddit. It has a couple of thousand subscribers, and posts are made to it by members every day. There’s a nice camaraderie, with people encouraging each other and sharing their latest project pics. If you don’t have an account on Reddit, it’s free to join. Quick Tip: jump on YouTube and you’ll find some video tutorials on how Reddit works.
  • Another way to connect with the community is to use the hashtag #metalearthfam on the various social media channels. It’s the most universally used hashtag for metal modelers, and will quickly get you to lots of content — especially photos of builds. You’ll find lots of activity on Instagram, Twitter and (even) Facebook.

YouTube

  • You can search “metal earth” and find a number of videos that different people have put up. Most of these are just occasional videos by people who are posting about lots of things. Two really great channels that you might check out, however …
    • animateorange. The channel run by Brad, who has focused pretty much exclusively on Metal Earth modeling for the past few years. He has a large number of videos uploaded.
    • Brian Builds. This is a more recent channel. Brian is uploading some amazing animated timelapse videos of builds he’s doing. They’re awesome.

Hi, I’m Phil. Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed building miniatures. Mostly plastic model airplanes. Then a couple of years ago, I was on my way out of our local hobby store when I spotted some Metal Earth kits on the checkout counter. I was intrigued. I bought one and took it home. It was a simple kit that I was able to put together in just an hour or two, but once I built it I was hooked. That was the beginning of an obsession that has grown ever since. These little kits have brought me hours of enjoyment, and this website is a place for me to share what I’ve learned with you.
